Proxim Stratum X3 5GHz Outdoor Wireless Radio, MIMO 2x2, 1Gbps, IP67-rated for Point-to-Point and Point-to-Multipoint networks.

Stratum(TM) X3 – 5GHz

The Stratum X3 – 5GHz is a highly efficient and secure MIMO 2×2 outdoor wireless solution capable of throughput up to 1 Gbps.

Stratum X3 models are multi-purpose radios, designed to operate in each of the following modes:

  • Point-to-Point endpoint
  • Point-to-Multipoint CPE
  • Point-to-Multipoint Base Station (2-64 client support requires a license upgrade)

Both connectorized and integrated antenna models are available, and all models are housed in IP67-rated metal enclosures and operate from -40 to +140oF.

  • Wide Band Radio – 5.150-5.850 GHz
  • AES 128-bit encryption is upgradeable to 256-bit
  • 20, 40 and 80 MHz channels
  • Full tilt and swivel mounting kit included

Advanced Interference Management

To achieve peak performance in challenging RF environments characterized by dense unlicensed radio usage and significant interference, the Stratum X3 – 5GHz utilizes our highly efficient WORP® (Wireless Outdoor Router Protocol).

Proxim ClearConnect®, a crucial component of WORP®, provides effective interference management.

Security

Over the air transmission is secured via 128-bit AES encryption, with an option to upgrade to 256-bit when ultra-high security is desired.

Rugged Reliability

Stratum X3 features a robust IP67-rated metal enclosure designed to provide dependable performance over many years, even in severe conditions including strong winds, high salt exposure, and extreme temperatures.

Proxim WORP®

WORP® is a dynamic, asynchronous protocol designed to optimize the performance of outdoor wireless point-to-point and point-to-multipoint wireless links. WORP’s asynchronous nature allows the uplink and downlink to adapt to network traffic demands dynamically.

In a WORP® powered network, a base station autonomously handles on-demand bandwidth allocation and quality of service (QoS) settings based on the specific requirements of each client within the network.

Flexible and Secure Management Options

Management options include Proxim BlueConnect[tm]; our Bluetooth-enabled mobile management application; TLS 1.3 web GUI, SSH 2.0 CLI, and SNMP v3 for ProximVision Advanced, and other network management solutions.

Product Spotlight

Proxim Featured Products

Proxim Stratum X5 5GHz MIMO 4x4 point-to-point radio, up to 1.5Gbps, IP-rated design for reliable backhaul and Point-to-Multipoint networks.

Stratum[TM] X5 – 5GHz

The Stratum[tm] X5 is the first in a new series of ultra-high-performance point-to-point and Point to Multipoint radio endpoints.

The Stratum[tm] X5 is a 5 GHz, MIMO 4×4 point-to-point radio with greater than 1.5 Gbps throughput, and ideally suited to high capacity backhaul applications.

The 4×4 MIMO radio offers two significant benefits:

  • In MIMO 4×4:2 mode, antenna diversity enables two mirrored data streams that improve radio stability in harsh environments.
  • In MIMO 4×4:4 mode, a 20MHz channel will double the throughput compared to the typical MIMO 2×2:2 point-to-point systems available today.

Other Features Include:

  • Up to 1.58 Gbps Throughput
  • Wide Band Radio – 5.150-5.850 GHz
  • 2.5G Ethernet with optional 10G SFP+ optical transceiver cage
  • AES 128-bit encryption is upgradeable to 256-bit
  • Full tilt and swivel mounting kit included

Flexible Antenna Options

The SX5-1042A is a flexible variant that includes an integrated quad polarity panel antenna, plus software selectable connectors for external antennas.

Model SX5-1040A is a connectorized unit purpose build for external quad polarity antennas where specific antenna patterns or gain adjustments are needed.

WORP Sync – The First Common Synchronization Technology

With the growing demand for outdoor wireless applications and limited license-free spectrum, there exists a clear and growing deficit of available interference-free frequencies. Large scale wireless Internet service providers (ISPs) and organizations with dense networks are compelled to reuse the limited available spectrum, often resulting in high self-interference, poor Quality of Service (QoS), and reduced throughput.

Proxim Wireless WORP Sync

Proxim with its new WORP Sync feature helps overcome these challenges by allowing efficient collocation of more and more radios at a cell site. To understand how this is accomplished let us first take a look into synchronous absent aka asynchronous network topology.

Conversely, WORP Sync coordinates the transmit timing between all the BSUs within a network. The timing mechanism used as a clock for these synchronous networks is either a satellite signal or other clock sources such as ethernet synchronization modules. This ensures all BSUs within a geography where they may interfere with each other transmit and receive at the exact same time. This applies not only to BSUs on the same tower, but all BSUs within a given area that can potentially “hear” each other and hence improper timing can corrupt Tx and Rx data streams.

WORP Sync Overview

Today wireless ISPs are at a critical juncture, on one hand the demand for internet and wireless applications is undergoing exponential growth, while on the other hand the spectrum “crunch” is turning out to be a real major concern; forcing wireless ISPs to make the most of the limited spectrum. To make matters more challenging for the WISP, the persistent consumer demand for more cost-efficient “subscription plans” is driving wireless ISPs to optimize and cut down costs wherever possible.

How to minimize radio frequency interference

With the influx of wireless based communications in unlicensed bands, the likelihood that one’s wireless network gets interfered is higher than ever today. Much as we’d like to, interference in these bands can’t be eliminated, however what can be done is “minimize the impact”. This guide book walks you through some of the concepts and common causes of RFI (Radio Frequency Interference), as well as some best practices that will help you to minimize RFI and it’s impact.
